I am very happy to be able to add this fish to the list of species I have landed on a fly rod. Both the Tigre Guapote and the Blue Guapote are great fish to target on a fly rod.
The large fish hit hard and dig deep looking for any piece of structure to break you off on. Winning the first 5-10 seconds of the battle drastically improves your chance of actually landing one of these fantastic fish!
The other great thing about this fish is that you can target them with topwater poppers and hopper patterns or by throwing large streamers. However, with that in mind, the ticket to a big guapote is always a big juice baitfish pattern.
