“La Experiencia is a short film I made using as few clips as possible showcasing just how awesome jungle fly fishing in Costa Rica can be” – Jesse Males
Fly fishing in Costa Rica has many challenges that it loves to throw in the face of the fly angler. Depending on the fish species and conditions water levels and other variables can make fishing tough. However, despite whether or not the fishing is on fire every single day doesn’t take away from the experience of creeping up a jungle creek at sunrise or floating down a machaca river in the afternoon. Monkeys, exotic birds, and the many sounds of all the wildlife you don’t even get to see is enough to create a trip you won’t soon forget.
The video below is a short film I made using as few clips as possible showcasing just how awesome jungle fly fishing in Costa Rica can be. Check it out!

As you can see in the video the sounds of the jungle are one of the best parts of fishing these waters, aside from the super rad fish species of course. Most of our freshwater fishing is done for a fish species called a machaca. This fish is one of our favorite species to catch on fly in Costa Rica. The other fish species that we enjoy targeting although they are a bit harder than the machaca is the guapote a.k.a the rainbow bass!
If you do not know what a machaca or rainbow bass is, watch the videos below showcasing each species!

GUAPOTE FISHING
When running a round in the jungle here you never know what is going to happen or what you are going to see. The jungles are teaming with a large variety of birds and mammals that often you only get to hear due to the dense foliage.
