Redfish L&D HD Fly Tying Video: BACKWATER VLOG #27

best redfish fly

“The Redfish L&D is easily one of my favorite redfish flies of all. Fishes like a true champ and has a great action in the water!” – Jesse Males

This is a redfish fly that I have no problem saying is one of my all-time favorite redfish flies for the state of Florida and beyond! This fly has a great action in the water and continues to catch fish everywhere it goes! I originally started fishing this fly in the Mosquito Lagoon area but quickly learned it could catch a redfish just about everywhere they swim. It works great for sight fishing but can also be stripped in like a baitfish fly which makes it a good search pattern as well.

As you can see this fly uses some basic tying techniques to create a fly with epic action in the water and a head that pushes water while adding a fine wiggle motion. Next time you are digging through your fly box guessing which is the best redfish fly, hopefully you will have tied one of these by then and quickly pick it out and give it a whirl! You will be glad you did!

I’m Capt. Jesse Males, an avid fly fishing, snook snatching, kayak paddling, tarpon slaying, mountain hiking, manatee swimming fool from Central Florida. Over the years fly fishing has had a huge impact on my life and particularly on how I view the world we spend our time in. I am currently the owner and operator of as well as our online fly shop, The lifestyle that is called fly fishing has taken me to some amazing destinations and has provided me with some amazing experiences in the wild. From chasing big salty critters in the Florida Keys, to roosters in Coast Rica, to small wild trout in the Carolinas, and all the way up to the high mountain cutthroat of Wyoming; I have been blessed to experience fly fishing at its finest.
