Rockin’ The Rockies: The Quest For Trophy Cutthroat

“This trip was one heck of a ride, and I was super blessed to be able to share the experience with two super rad dudes!” – Capt. Jesse Males

The high mountain areas in the state of Wyoming are jam packed full of amazing places to chase cutthroat. This video captures our 10 day journey to find a high lake packed with trophy fish. I was blessed to be able to have my good friend Mark Evans from Stone Mountain Outdoors and fellow fly fisherman Aaron Thomas Gates join me on this trip.

Well, enough of the intro garbage…sit back and enjoy the film.

Completing a trip like this takes tons of planning and access to quality gear that is going to take care of you when the going gets tough. In the high alpine areas mother nature can be a real beast at times.

I would like to thank the folks at Walton Rods, Patagonia, Blue Ridge Custom Flies, and Sierra Designs for helping make this trip an enormous success. Your support has been greatly appreciated.

I’m Capt. Jesse Males, an avid fly fishing, snook snatching, kayak paddling, tarpon slaying, mountain hiking, manatee swimming fool from Central Florida. Over the years fly fishing has had a huge impact on my life and particularly on how I view the world we spend our time in. I am currently the owner and operator of backwaterflyfishing.com as well as our online fly shop, backwaterflies.com. The lifestyle that is called fly fishing has taken me to some amazing destinations and has provided me with some amazing experiences in the wild. From chasing big salty critters in the Florida Keys, to roosters in Coast Rica, to small wild trout in the Carolinas, and all the way up to the high mountain cutthroat of Wyoming; I have been blessed to experience fly fishing at its finest.
