“If you are in the market for a new reel, then check out my HD Gear Review for The Grip series by Galvan Fly Reels” – Capt. Jesse Males

I have to admit that testing out The Grip fly reel by Galvan Fly Reels over the past few months has been a blast. The reels are smooth and slick, and the G-8 reel feels perfect on the base of my Walton Rods C-9.

Below are a few things I don’t have an issue with, but that may annoy some people.

  • Not many color options (even though I think the Clear/Blue color looks pretty rad)
  • While they are not heavy by any means, it is not the lightest reel on the market. The G-8 weighed in at 7.8 ounces and the G-10 weighed in at 8.7 ounces. For me, this would not be enough to deter me from this reel in the least bit.

Over the years fly fishing has had a huge impact on my life and particularly on how I view the world we spend our time in. I am currently the owner and operator of as well as our online fly shop, The lifestyle that is called fly fishing has taken me to some amazing destinations and has provided me with some amazing experiences in the wild. From chasing big salty critters in the Florida Keys, to roosters in Coast Rica, to small wild trout in the Carolinas, and all the way up to the high mountain cutthroat of Wyoming; I have been blessed to experience fly fishing at its finest.
