When most people think about fishing for largemouth bass in Central Florida, they tend to think of fishing hotspots like Lake Toho or the Conway and Kissimmee Chain of Lakes. It is true that these locations consistently produce quality fish; however, for the angler that likes searching out secluded areas for trophy size fish the Little Econlockhatchee River provides just that.

This small river is a tributary to the St. Johns. Because of this, it usually floods its banks during the summer rains and can rise over 15 feet in some areas. This drastically reduces the quality of fishing. However, during the winter months the water can get down to mere inches in some areas. This provides a unique situation that makes sight fishing for trophy bass possible!

I had the pleasure of entertaining my friend Wade for a trip out on the Econ only a few days ago. I try to do most of my fishing with my fly rod, but this time we got into most of our trouble using light spinning gear. Here is a video of the mess we made!
